Flashback Friday
A few years back, Mark received a call from a long-time friend and former co-worker at Freightliner. His friend, Stacy, had a job proposition for Mark. Stacy's wife was a volunteer at the Indianapolis Zoo, and the zoo staff was looking for a way to accurately weigh their rhinos. Together, Mark and Stacy developed a platform that could be set on scales for the rhinos to walk right up to. The two spent months planning and fabricating the platform, which they eventually donated to the Indianapolis Zoo. The "Plains Biome" staff can now weigh the three white rhinos with ease! As a special treat after installation of the platform, Mark and his family got a behind-the-scenes tour of the rhino and lion exhibits.

Flashback Friday
Did you know we used to have a "shop cat" at bo-mar? Back in the mid-2000's, we found a stray cat hanging out around our shop. When the weather was nice, she would end up coming in through the open doors out back. Liking the idea of having a great mouse-hunter at the shop, we decided to keep her! We named her Marbo and took her to get spayed right away. She was a sweet girl, and all of the employees really liked her. Sadly, we only had her for a couple of years. Some of us recently suggested getting another cat, but we came to the conclusion that it would no longer be a safe environment with all the machinery and fork trucks we have these days. We sure do miss Marbo, though!

bo-mar gives back!
As we briefly mentioned in a facebook photo gallery, each year bo-mar employees chip in some cash to get Christmas gifts for Bo and Mark. In 2010, the money they collected was donated to Indian Creek Christian Church. This past year, bo-mar's wonderful employees collected nearly $800 for Bo and Mark's Christmas gift! Mark's daughter then collaborated with the shop foreman and the plant manager to come up with a plan for the money. They all agreed on donating the entire amount to Riley Hospital for Children in Bo and Mark's names. Riley has a special place in the Buchanan brothers' hearts because of a nephew who lost his battle with leukemia at the hospital years ago. We're happy to say that with bo-mar's donation of $789, Riley was able to purchase a red wagon for it's young patients.

Flashback Friday
In honor of the current weather we're having in Indiana, we decided it was time to use this picture of Mark's snow koala creation. Honestly, we thought we'd get to use it before now, but we certainly aren't complaining that we made it to January without much snow. We think this koala shows off Mark's creativity and talent, so it doesn't surprise us that he and his brother are now fabricating very artistic products for a living. What do you guys think of Mark's work here? What's your favorite snowday activity?

We're Back!
We took a little break from blogging the past two weeks, but we should be getting back on track now! Overall, we had a great year in 2011, and we hope to see the business thrive even more in 2012! Right now, bo-mar's President, Bo, is actually headed overseas to Birmingham, England to promote the motorsports side of bo-mar industries. We are excited to hear how the trip goes for him!
We'd also like to wish everyone a safe and happy new year!
